McBeth is better than I'd dreamed. He's being groomed to be a closer. Which Oakland doesn't need, since they have Street, who's three years younger. And we're getting another "almost ready" player, too! (My guess is that it's another pitcher, since that's what Oakland has a surfeit of.)

Oakland obviously really wanted Deno. They gave up a lot for him, and they were the ones pursuing this trade. They called Krivsky even after the injury and said they were still interested.

Deno could start in Oakland next season, which won't happen in Cincinnati. Similarly, McBeth will get a chance here he wouldn't get in Oakland. This sounds like a good deal for all concerned, the players included.BubbaFanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12416316223741178799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23241716.post-62604596596296516512007-04-29T02:21:00.000-04:002007-04-29T02:21:00.000-04:00Thanks for your comments! It's always nice to hear your perspectives on player performance--we come at it from different perspectives, and I really value your insights. -jjinazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07697776280178146413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23241716.post-70602529381382167482007-04-29T01:28:00.000-04:002007-04-29T01:28:00.000-04:00wow, I didn't know that was so long.wow, I didn't know that was so long.Doug Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06429070071208586169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23241716.post-72328875011401809082007-04-29T01:26:00.000-04:002007-04-29T01:26:00.000-04:00I am fairly happy with the trade. I love the fact ...I am fairly happy with the trade. I love the fact that we got McBeth in the deal. He was the only guy I was hoping for would be in the deal (well Suzuki and Barton would have been nice too, but those guys were obviously not in the deal). Throws 92-94 consistantly and hits 96 at times with a change up that one scout compared to Hoffman or Santana. The Reds are beginning to collect some hard throwing bullpen arms with Coffey, Burton, Salmon and now McBeth. I like the fact that we may be able to bring in more hard throwing guys than soft tossers unlike the past fairly soon.
I will miss Denorfia, as its sad that for what the guy could do on the field, he was never given close to a fair shot in Cincinnati. I am happy for him though that he is going to a place that will appreciate him for the things he does and he will get a shot with them.
Overall though, I really think its good for both teams because the Reds were not going to give Denorfia a shot for whatever reason and to turn him around for a guy who throws upwards of 96 with another plus pitch and a slider that has been above average at times.... that is something I can surely live with.Doug Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06429070071208586169noreply@blogger.com
