2002-2009 Reds fielding, graphically

How different is this year's defense vs. previous seasons in the "UZR era" (fangraphs has UZR back to 2002)? Inspired by TucsonRoyal's Graph of the Day, here are Reds fielding 2002-2009. 2009 data are extrapolated based on the first 53 games of this year.

And here's another look:

  1. Hey, your colors are off on 2008. CF should be blue. And your legend should be < -9 on the last one. Also, you shouldn't have taken all of this fun stuff away from the rest of us bloggers. :)

  2. Thanks for the corrections. I've fixed 2008. The other one is fixed in the template, but I don't have time to fix it in the images right now.

As for you last point...sorry? :)

  3. Why if First Base so bad? I thought Votto was now considered at least average. Is that untrue, or is Hernandez that bad, or what?

  4. Votto's fielding data isn't great this year. Keep in mind that it's a small sample, though, which admittedly makes the entire 2009 graph questionable.

But Votto was rated above-average last year by bUZR, and was rated ~average by fans. I'd say he's roughly average over there. The data will probably show that by season's end, assuming he returns relatively soon...
