Reds pitching coach Vern Ruhle, who has seemed to be a very solid replacement for Don Gullett since he came on last season, has been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. The report I'm linking indicates that the doctors say that they caught it early and that it is treatable. The ESPN ticker says that doctors expect a "full recovery." While there are no guarantees with this sort of thing, this news is very encouraging to hear that. Best of luck to Mr. Ruhle and his family--recover soon.
In other news, EdE had a big night at the plate tonight, going 3-4 with 2 HR's and 3 RBI, while Homer Bailey pitched two scoreless innings in his first spring training game. The future does look bright for the Reds in those two guys.
